The Mission District has long been a neighborhood where immigrants could grab a foothold in the city. Yet over the past few years, San Francisco’s oldest neighborhood has also become one of its most desirable. For eight months reporters and photographers of the San Francisco Chronicle spent time getting to know residents and merchants near the block of 24th Street between Shotwell and Folsom — known as the heart of the Mission — to document the change they are experiencing.
The project received Honorable Merit in the “Online Feature Story Editing – Newspaper” at the 72nd Annual Picture of the Year International Competition. Click on the images below to enter this interactive storytelling project.
