“From Source to Sea” is an interactive multimedia essay that follows extreme oil fuel lines from North Dakota, through the backyards of the Pacific Northwest, to export terminals in the Bay Area. Featuring interviews with stakeholders along the way, from ranchers, to roustabouts, to refinery works, the essay traces the effect of extreme oil on the ordinary people of the Western United States.
The project was overseen by Wes Pope and Andrew DeVigal of the New York Times. Photography and videography by Nathaniel Needham and National Geographic correspondent Trip Jennings. Editing by Amanda Needham and Nathaniel Needham. Writing and web design by Amanda Needham.
